Creating Teacher Sites

This module begins with an introduction to the tools and environment of the School Wires Site Manager Workspace.
 
The tools and features in Module 1, will be equivalent to those used in other website packages (Teacher Web, etc.).

  Goals for Module 1
 
    By the end of the first module, teachers should be able to:

      • Access the School Wires Site Manager
      • Understand and Navigate the editing workspace
      • Create, edit, rename or delete pages 
      • Add, move and format text
      • Upload images and files from computer to server
      • Insert images and links to files on webpage(s)

 Accessing the Site Manager workspace:
 
 
  Step 1    Sign In to the LPS School Wires site from any LPS webpage.

                             Sign in on any school site
 
 
                  Once you sign in, you will see that you have access to the Site Manager.

                       Site Manager will appear as an option in the website top navigation bar.  
 
 
  
 Step 2   Click on Site Manager to access the files in your Section Workspace.

You may have access to multiple channels (lefthand pane).  Pages within the selected channel will appear in the center.

 Managing public viewing while creating/editing your site:
 
  Pages can be Active, Inactive and/or Hidden from navigation while you are working on them.
 
  During this course, we will keep our pages active, but hide them from website navigation.
 
        Hiding a page from website navigation:
           
 Step 1  Select the channel you wish to edit
                       (from the lefthand pane) 
            Step 2  Locate the page you would like to modify
           
 Step 3  Click the associated Actions button

            Step 4  Select Page Options 
            Step 5  Check the box that says:
                        Hide this page from website navigation

Modifying your page content: 
   
   The School Wires editor has many features you may recognize from word processing editors.

   You can hover over any icon on the editor toolbar - to reveal its function 
 
         Note: Although many editor features will look and behave similarly to a word processor,
         the School Wires editor is an html editor and the underlying structure is different. 
         We will discuss many of the issues this can present, as the workshop continues. 
 
 
  
        Row 1:  Editing Tools

        The top row of tools allow you to perform editing actions on your webpage.
 
 
             print spellcheck find and replace                      spell check ... print ... find and replace

             fullscreen editing                                   view editor in full screen mode

          Row 2:  Formatting Tools

The second row of tools allows you to format the text within your page.
       
 
               Format the following aspects of your text: 
                 font style, size, color, highlight color, boldface, italicize, underline, strikethrough
                 justify left, justify 
center, justify right, justify full, number, bullet, indent or de-indent
 
 
 
          Row 3:  Going Beyond Text

            The third row of tools allows you to add non-text items to enrich your site's look and function.

Adding Clipart, Photos and Files to your website:

        Tip1:  Uploaded files are easier to use when they
                    have short (< 20 characters), meaningful names. 
 
         Tip2:  When using images you have not captured yourself,
                     please consider copyright and fair use rules.
 
         Tip3:  Students must have a signed Web Consent form 
for
                                                                            their recognizable likeness to be placed on the internet. 

 
Browse to the file you wish to upload, select Medium size / Large size, depending on the clarity/size needed:

Step 1  Click the  Tools  tab, at the top of the  Section Workspace .

  Step 2    Select Files & Folders from the Tools palette.

  Step 3    Within the Files & Folders section, click the  Upload  button

  Step 4    Click the   Browse...   button to locate the files you wish to upload.

  Step 5    Highlight the file(s) you wish to upload for use on your website, and click  Open

  Step 6    Review/Revise the list of files to be uploaded: 
 
Final upload  
 
  Step 7    Click  Upload  when your list is complete.  
 
 
 
 Step 8

  Step 9     Select your file from the list that appears.
