LEF Awards $320,366 in Grant Funding
The Lexington Education Foundation (LEF) is pleased to announce it has awarded $320,366 in grants for 2012-2013! LEF has united private donations with business sponsorships to offer $149,435 in technology and associated training; $64,620 in professional development; $44,627 in innovative curriculum; and $32,500 in school community grants. LEF grants fund innovative instruction across a wide spectrum of academic disciplines, technology and training, and professional development. Fellowships are available for teachers to attend courses, seminars, and workshops to improve professional practice. School community grants fund smaller-scale educational initiatives or community-building activities at each school. Among the 33 grants awarded, four grants involved iPads, including a pilot iPad program enabling 50 LHS sophomores to access online textbooks, electronic note taking and graphic organizers for writing projects. Mark Your Calendars for LEF's Multicultural Bazaar 12/6!Lexington Education Foundation will hold its second annual Global Treasures Multicultural Bazaar on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Cary Memorial Hall, 1605 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington, 2:30 to 8:00 pm. This event will celebrate Lexington's diverse student population and promote awareness of LEF's work supporting teacher initiatives in our schools.
Come to Global Treasures and shop for unique gifts, sample multicultural cuisine, and enjoy a variety of performances from around the world. There will be fun crafts tables to keep little ones engaged, and parents can learn about local educational and summer programs offered around town. Finally, families will enjoy art and history demonstrations by LEF grant recipients who were awarded study programs in Africa, Korea, and India.
