New Principal for Clarke

May 14, 2012

I am pleased to inform you that I have appointed Mrs. Anna Monaco as the next principal of the Jonas Clarke Middle School, effective July 1, 2012.  Mrs. Monaco was the unanimous choice of the Clarke principal search committee, which was comprised of parents, teachers, and administrators.

Mrs. Monaco is extremely well qualified for the Clarke principalship.  During the past four years, Mrs. Monaco served as one of the two Assistant Principals at Clarke.  In that role, she had extensive experience working with students, parents, and staff members, and a major role in the supervision and evaluation process.  Her prior experience included seven years as a special education teacher in Lexington and five years as a special education teacher and reading teacher in other communities.  Mrs. Monaco is a resident of Lexington and started her formal education in kindergarten at the Hastings school.  Mrs. Monaco received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Colby College and earned her Master’s degree from Simmons College.  Mrs. Monaco has the personal and professional experiences that are needed to be a highly effective principal at Clarke.  She is intelligent, cares about children, communicates well, and has high academic expectations for all students.

I look forward to Mrs. Monaco’s leadership at Clarke, and I thank Dr. Flynn for his significant contributions during these past six years.

Sincerely,

Paul B. Ash, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools
