    Today's class objectives were: "Use equations as point-testers. Make graphs of equations." During class we worked through the handout "Equations and their graphs." The homework is:

    • section 3.01 (p. 187) exercises 1 and 2
    • section 3.03 (pp. 197-199) exercises 2, 4, 14, 15

    In these problems, the word "satisfy" means "makes the equation true."

    Today's class continued with the objectives of the last two classes (guess-check-generalize and solving for variables). We worked on a set of follow-up problems for the "Central Park" computer lab. There is no homework tonight.

    Today's class objective was "Guess, check, and generalize in an application context." On computers we worked on the Desmos activity Central Park (class code: 7798S), and tried two extension problems as time permitted. There is no homework tonight.

    Since we just had a full-period test, your only homework is to make sure you have all these supplies and are consistently bringing them to class from now on:

    • TI-83 or TI-84 calculator
    • three-ring notebook
    • handouts and your own work in the three-ring notebook
    • lined paper and graph paper

    Tomorrow (Friday 10/13) we will have our test on Chapter 2, Expressions and Equations. Today (Thursday 10/12) in class you received a review packet with a topic outline, review problems, and their answers. During class, your group completed several review problems. As homework, do at least 3 more review problems (pick the ones that you need the most).

    Today's class objective was "Solve more advanced word problems." Your homework is to finish whatever of these problems you didn't finish during Friday's and Tuesday's classes:

    • section 2.15 (pp. 165-166) exercises 6, 7, 9, 11, 12
    • section 2.16 (pp. 169-170) exercises 1-5, 7-9

    Upcoming: Our unit test for Chapter 2 (Expressions and Equations) will be on Friday 10/13.

    Today's class continued with the objective "Use the guess-check-generalize method to solve word problems." During class, as time permitted, we did more section 2.15 exercises: 6, 7, 9, 11, 12.

    If you were in class Friday, there is no homework over the holiday weekend. If you were absent Friday, you should catch up on the problems listed above.

    Upcoming: Our unit test for Chapter 2 (Expressions and Equations) will be on Friday 10/13.

The homework is to finish the packet, then do section 2.15 (pp. 165-166) exercises 4 and 5. Optional: For exercise 5 you might want to print and use this graphic organizer.
