One of two standardized college admissions tests in the US. (The other is the SAT.) The ACT is a subject-based exam that evaluates four areas: English, math, reading, and science reasoning; there is also an optional essay. The ACT may be used as a substitute for the SAT at nearly all colleges and, in some cases, as a substitute for both the SAT and SAT Subject Tests.
