FOURTH GRADE NEWS:
NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2015/JANUARY 2016
VOCABULARY has been the main focus over the past few months. We have been looking at general vocabulary as well as content based words (geography, types of bridges, etc.). Looking at different elements can help students visualize and verbalize the meanings of words and students will continue to use different organizers and tools to help with vocabulary development. Check out the Expanding Expression Tool organizer on the Resource page.
FRIENDSHIP is also theme we are working on together. We recently read the book Enemy Pie by Derek Munson. This book was used as a model for how to make inferences, think about character traits, and problem-solution. Students have chosen their own books to read with the theme of friendship and they will be doing some thinking, talking and writing about what they notice.
4th graders have been working on developing stories by looking at a picture and then writing what is happening NOW in the scene...what could have happened BEFORE the scene...and what could happen AFTER the scene. We have also revisited the Story Grammar Marker graphic organizer (See Resource Page) to help develop characters, setting, and kick off.
