We will be doing lots of work this week and next to build a caring and positive learning community in our classroom. The students are coming together as a community and they are already learning the new routines of Room 44. Getting to know each other is exciting and enjoyable with such interesting and friendly children. I can already tell we are going to have a wonderful year together. To help everyone adjust to our new routines, here are the details of our day.
Students will be coming into the building at 8:30 as a class, from the basketball court. We start our day with morning work while attendance and lunch count are taken. Attendance is sent to the office at 8:45. After 8:45, students are considered tardy. Dismissal is at 3:15 on Monday. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. On Thursday, children are dismissed at 12:15pm. Thank you for picking your child up at the basketball court if they do not take the bus. If someone other than the usual will pick up your child, please send me a note on that day so I can keep track of comings and goings. This year we will not have a morning recess, but we do have a snack time and one or two specials most mornings. We will have recess at 11:30 and lunch from 11:50 – 12:15. We will also have a 15-minute recess at 1:30.
Our specialist schedule is as follows:
Monday: P.E – 9:45 – Please remember your sneakers!
Tuesday: Library – 9:45 & Music – 10:15
Wednesday: Art – 9:45
Friday: P.E 9:45 & Music – 10:15 – Please remember your sneakers!
All School Meeting: Thursday at 8:45 am (You are always welcome to attend)
Homework is given every night except Friday. Assignment sheets will be provided for students to track their nightly homework. More information regarding weekly homework routines will be provided at Back to School Night.
Birthdays are an exciting time in elementary school and in Room 44 we will celebrate by making a very thoughtful birthday poster honoring the child on his/ her special day. The Lexington Schools are a non – food celebration zone so we cannot have cake or special snacks. Thank you for supporting this decision.
Curriculum Night will be on Thursday September 24th. This is a chance for me to give you a better idea of our daily routines as well as what we will be studying this year.
Our Classroom Website is an important communication tool I will use throughout the year for items such as classroom announcements, current learning goals and web resources for students. Please visit the classroom website.
