Writing Workshop begins with a 10-15 minute mini-lesson and then the students go to their seats to incorporate what they learned into their writing. While students are working, I am either floating around the class and conferencing with students, or pulling a group of students to practice a skill. We end with a share to the whole class or with their partner.
Please note that we encourage "kindergarten spelling" - meaning we encourage students to sound out the word and write the sounds they hear. We do expect that our high-frequency words, that have been taught, are spelled using "dictionary spelling".
We use Lucy Calkins' Writing Curriculum. We will learn to write in a variety of genres - narrative, informational, persuassive, and more!
