    Each student must have a recommendation from their METCO Director. This year, student who have a 2.5 GPA and considerable leadership and community service will be considered.
    Incomplete and late applications will not be considered. It is the applicant's responsibility to make sure all parts of the application are received by the April 30th deadline.

    The Franklin Park Area/Grove Hall Chapter #4685 of AARP will award two one thousand dollars ($1000) scholarships for the 2017-2018 school year. These scholarships will be awarded to deserving senior high school students who reside in the Greater Boston Area and have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community service. The applicants should be attending college or any institution of higher learning in the fall of 2017.

    To apply, please complete the Application Form and return it with the following:

    o   Transcript of Grades with GPA

    o   Two (2) letters of recommendation - one (1) community reference and one (1) academic reference on proper letterhead.

    o   Letter of acceptance to a two-year, four-year college or training institute

    o   An essay (of at least 500 words) that gives a personal statement that speaks

    about you as an individual. It should address what type of difference you could make in society and why; include the person who has been most influential in your life and why

         * Essay must be typed and double spaced

                     * Should be typed in Times New Roman font

         * Size 12 font should be used

                      * Pages should have 1” margins on all sides


    Your essay and other supporting documents (completed application, reference letters, transcripts, and letter of acceptance) must be completed and received by May 2, 2017 to the indicated address

    Your application will not be reviewed unless all the above information is complete and received on time. Please follow all directions

    The recipients will be notified in May for a June 10, 2017 award ceremony.

    The Newton Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Incorporated is accepting applications for our

    2017 Merit Scholarship Program

    In keeping with the mission of our organization, we are committed to advancing the cultural, social, and academic achievements of African American children. This scholarship program awards $2,000 annually to outstanding African-American high school seniors who are based in Massachusetts and entering an accredited 4- year university or college upon graduation.

    Applications will be reviewed by a committee, which will consider the applicant’s academic achievements, educational background, leadership, work experience, college goals, extra-curricular and community service activities. An applicant’s grade point average must not be lower than a B- for the cumulative period beginning through the most recent grading/semester completed. This award will be paid directly to the student upon verification of the student’s full-time enrollment at an institution of higher education. Awards are not transferable or renewable. Award recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement and merit, not financial need.
