We work with students from all over the world as well as with students born in this country, who speak another language at home. It is our goal to help these students to feel comfortable and successful in the classroom by supporting their English language acquisition.
Our ELL curriculum is based on science and social studies topics, and supplies your children with essential academic vocabulary. The focus of our program is to teach skills in the four language domains: reading, writing, speaking and listening. In January, all of our ELLs will be taking the ACCESS test, which is an assessment that ELLs across the state of Massachusetts will take. Please feel free to email us if you have any questions.
At Hastings we have a pull-out program where the ELL teachers will take small groups of ELL's throughout the day and give direct instruction using materials based in science and social studies topics. It is a rich curriculum, and we make every effort to tie our work into what is happening in the classroom.
