    Chapter 1 Introduce Yourself and Others

    You will be able to:
    Name French-speaking countries and place some on a map.
    Understand the concept of a cognate and the romance roots of French and English.
    Respond to classroom commands and identify classroom objects.
    Spell words and pronounce common French sounds.
    Greet and say good-bye.  Ask how someone is and say how you are doing.  Use the appropriate pronoun: vous or tu.
    Share your nationality and ask where someone is from.
    Say the date.
    Ask about someone's age and give your age.
    Provide and ask for someone's phone number and email address.

    Classroom objects, action verbs for classroom activities.

    Chapter 2 Express Likes and Dislikes

    You will be able to:
    Ask what people like doing and share your likes and dislikes.

    Express agreement and disagreement.

    Say and ask how often and how well you do an activity.

    Grammar: Verbs: être- avoir - ER verbs- affirmative and negative sentences - simple question words.

    You will be able to:
    Talk about the weather.
    Say what hobbies you have for each season.
    Ask questions about people's hobbies.
    Make plans to go out with friends.

    Vocabulary: Offer to do things on the weekends, accept or turn down offers.

    Chapter 6 Let's eat

    You will be able to: 
    Set the table and name the items on the table.
    Read a breakfast and café menu.
    Order food at a restaurant.
    Describe food and ask and share tastes.
    Buy food on a farmers' market.
    Read a recipe.
    Vocabulary: Food names, interactions at the market and at the restaurant, cutlery, cooking vocabulary.
    Grammar: Verbs: -IR verbs, prendre, boire, the partitives, the imperative.

    Chapter Paris

    You will be able to:
    Name and place on the map the main monuments.
    Read and use a tourist map.
    Read, use and write a tourist brochure of a museum.
    Plan a three-day visit to the city.
    Review offering, accepting, turning down offer to join in activities.
    Vocabulary: Names of the main monuments and places, vocabulary of the tourist brochure.
    Grammar: Review the imperative, saying time.

    Chapter 7 Let's go shopping!

    You will be able to:
    Describe clothing and accessories.
    Give your opinion on outfits and clothing.
    Ask for opinion on outfits and clothing.
    Buy clothing and accessories in a shop.
    Talk about past events.
    Vocabulary: Clothing and accessories vocabulary, adjectives to describe outfits, time markers for past tense.
    Grammar: Passé composé with -ER verbs and irregular verbs, verb mettre, interrogative and demonstrative pronouns.

    Chapter 8 At home

    You will be able to:
    Share and ask about house chores.
    Describe a house layout and furniture.
    Say what your obligations are around the house.
    Ask for permission to do something.
    Follow a house tour.
    Understand a real estate ad.
    Describe past events.
    Vocabulary: furniture, structure of a house, house chores.
    Grammar: Passé composé with être and -IR and -RE, verbs: pouvoir and devoir, dormir, sortir and partir.

    Chapter 9 In the city

    You will be able to
    Read a city map and explain where buildings are situated in a city.
    Give and understand directions.
    Name important stores in a city.
    Buy stamps at the post office.
    Ask for medication at the pharmacist and describe common symptoms.
