The Responsive Classroom is a widely used research-based approach to elementary education that is designed to increase academic achievement, decrease problem behavior, improve a child’s social skills and lead to more high-quality instruction. Responsive Classroom II (also known as the Responsive Classroom Advanced Course) is an extension of the RCI course, both deepening previous learning and offering new strategies in the Responsive Classroom approach.

In Responsive Classroom II, participants will learn new Responsive Classroom practices and deepen their thinking about the practices they learned in RCI.

Responsive Classroom II consists of two 2-day modules:

  • Engaging Academics Module:
Create learning tasks that are active, interactive, appropriately challenging, purposeful, and connected to students’ interests. Topics: Morning Meeting, Interactive Modeling, Guided Discovery, language of learning, open-ended questions, Academic Choice
  • Effective Management Module:
Create a calm, orderly environment that promotes autonomy and enables students to focus on learning. Topics: Three Rs of teacher language, classroom organization, role-play, strategies for building empathy, responding to misbehavior, problem-solving conferences
